The format has now been officially announced by ESL for the event: eight teams will play a single elimination, best-of-three bracket across the two days of the event.

Vincent "Happy" Schopenhauer's EnVyUs and Finn "karrigan" Andersen's TSM will therefore be the first two announced teams to attend IEM San Jose. The two teams are something of rivals following recent offline clashes, such as nV's tense 2-0 victory at DreamHack Open London.

The event will also play a key role in determining the attendance of teams for the final stop of the Intel Extreme Masters circuit, at the IEM World Championship in Katowice.
